Straw Mushroom Cultivation Method

Hello,

I am a beginning grower in the Philippines and am interested in leaning the proper way to grow volvariella for best yield. I have grown oysters for some months now but am really interested in other mushrooms.

I learned about you and your website from reading posts in the Shroomery forums. I do hope you could help me out.

As you might be aware that Thailand is the world largest straw mushroom producer though our great guru in mushroom namely Prof. Dr. Karn Charanavijarana being graduated for and learnt mushroom cultivation from Philippines in 1946. Presently we could develop our own technique both in spawn production and production of mushroom. One have to take into account that growing straw mushroom might take only less than to weeks but in each step and time of it development involving complex factor, it is therefore if you are interested in this mushroom, you should learn some basic needs or essential requirement for this mushroom. You should be aware that Dr. Quimio in Los Banos and Dr. Alicbusan from Los Banos University are one of the most well known in this field you should consult with them or find some information from their books. I will try to get in touch with those people you mentioned. As I recently attended a training seminar done by Ms Lina Lapitan of the Bureau of Plant Industry here I will ask her about them.

Have you methods of straw cultivation been modernized? The methods promoted here are to still use dried banana leaves and outdoor plots. I was hoping for a more modern semi-industrialized method as I plan to set-up within the city proper for ease of market distribution and the available substrates I can get easily would be rice straw, rice husk.

I have read in the Shroomery forum about "Anon 52" method was it? I would be interested to know your cultivation techniques, where can I write to you? Here or through email?

Yes our Anon 52 technology for straw mushroom cultivation is the newest and most modernized method which has been released to the public recently. Usually, Thai mushroom farmers have engaged with Anon17 technology by using 2 phases system ie. allow mushroom substrates to be fermented via anaerobic condition outdoor, subsequently move them after mixing with adequate additives to peak heating room for aerobic condition fermentation and pasteurization. This method would used the same room for incubation and fructification as well. The disadvantages for Anon 17 are 1. cost of production is high 2. need more labourers 3. consume a lot of energy from live steam 4. inconvenience to work 5. high risk due to high contamination when using cropping room continuously 6. could not be done in big way , it would be fitted for cottage or small holders only. Because of the above mentioned "Anon 52" by Dr. Anon's endeavor, he could solve the whole problem by using 3 phases method ie. 1. allow the substrate to be fermented in anaerobic condition outdoor as "Anon17" 2. filling tray or basket after mixing mushroom additives then keeping them at peak heating room for aerobic condition fermentation as well as peak heating 3. innoculation and incubation in incubation room, this could be done at the same room for peak heating 4. for fructification or production of mushroom would be done at cropping house which could be any space where moisture, light, oxygen could be controlled properly. In this part the fully impregnated grown compost could be delivered to the out growers. This "Anon52" could be done as big business or big industry by setting mushroom growing group by using one center unit to produce impregnated compost, the out growers just buy or take care during cropping and harvesting only.
Of course, we are running our activity as business not as charity, we therefore conducting practical training for not only Thai but for those people around the globe who are interested in straw mushroom or any commercial mushroom cultivation, if you need further information in deep , you could come over to participate the course which would be announced time to time or as individual arrangement ok
