Good morning Mr Pai,
I heard in the news about the catastrophic monsoon rains, and i hope you have still dry feet.
I come to you as some time ago i got a Tricholoma crassum on agar and now in spawn phase.
In yr comment i see picture of yr father filling bags with substrate.
Whats the substrate used ?? Can the ambient temperature be sufficient(here approximatively 28 Celsius) or do i need to incubate at higher temperatures.
Last question , how do you cook these monsters ??? Could not find a single recipe in the net , i suppose you grow them to eat

คำถามจากแฟนประจำจากแดนไกล เป็นคนยุโรป แต่งงานกับคนฟิลิปปินส์ มีลูกสาวหนึ่งคนจบปริญญาแล้ว ต้องการที่จะให้ลูกสาวเพาะเห็ดฟาง เพาะไปเพาะมาแล้วมีปัญหาแก้ไม่ตก ก็เลยถามมีในกระทู้นี้ ก็ได้ให้ความกระจ่างไปพอสมควร แต่ไปๆมาๆแกกลับไปสนใจเห็ดแทบทุกชนิดที่เราเอามาลงในกระทู้ พอเราลงเรื่องเห็ดอะไร แกก็จะถามมาด้วยความสนใจ เช่นเดียวกันกับเห็ดตีนแรด พอทางเราพูดถึงเห็ดตีนแรด ตอนนี้แกก็สนใจเห็ดนี้ขึ้นมาอีก และก็ถามว่า เห็น รูปที่ ดร.อานนท์บรรจุถุงนั้น มันเป็นอะไร ใช้สูตรอะไร เพาะเลี้ยงเส้นใยใยอุณหภูมิธรรมดาได้ไหม แล้วนำไปปรุงอาหารอย่างไร ชนิดที่ว่า แกไม่มีความรู้พื้นฐานอะไรเลย แต่ก็อยากรู้จริงๆ จึงขออนญาตตอบให้แกหายข้อข้องใจเสียหน่อย

Thank for your concern in our desructive flooding extensively over the central basin of Thailand, we are currently in the midst of the crisis whereas terribly flood cover over our area, presently we are still not really affected.
Concerning your querries, please see here belows :
1. We used soft wood sawdust as mushroom substrate with 10% of KAT 101 , 1% KAT 901 and 1-2% enzymed starch with pH 6.5 moisture content 62%
2. This mushroom could grown profusely at ambient room temperature like in Thailand and Philippines, certainly you could successfully cultivate this mushroom in your country year round. In Thailand, because of its excellent taste and medicinal properties, this mushroom become increasingly popular amongst the mushroom eater lovers. Cost of this mushroom(Fresh) around US$8-10 in comparision to Oyster mushroom price around US$1-1.5 only.
3. The Rhino feet mushroom could be used as meat or chickhen substitute in fried, deep fried(Tempura in Japan) with wheat flour,soup, salad, Bar B-Q ( before roasting one should dip it in oyster or soya sauce and dressing during the process with butter and pepper
4. Look at the following pictures of this mushroom at pinhead stage at our Institute today(9/10/2011) after casing or opening the bags about 15-20 days

Thanks for the information as i dont have acces to your Kat i made some additives myself and the use of Desmodium rensonii seems especially beneficial to the spawn making of Tricholoma
Well you are lucky that prices at that high , here thats impossible to get these prices but i am surprised about your prices for Pleurotus really very low ... how the farmer makes a profit , her Pleurotus mushroom in the market fetch a minimum od 3 to 4 USD/kilo
I will inform my wife how to prepare the msuhroom as my role in the kitchen is limited to eat the food
