HELLO FRIENDS, HERE IS A NEW MEMBER
Hello members of this forum,
My name is Naileth. I am from Tanzania , Africa. I have just discovered this wonderful website. I was in a search for tropical mushroom species and this is how I found myself here. I am so glad to have found this web and learn about Dr Anon’s mushroom species and technology. Although I can’t read your language, from the pictures I have seen the beauty of the species you are growing. The giant rhino, gray oyster, fen mushroom and lentinus grows are awesome. Congratulations to you guys who grew them! I hope to grow these some day. Myself I am a toddler in mushroom cultivation. I have never had any substantial grow. Just few small grows of oyster mushroom. This is the only edible cultivated specie available in my country. I don’t like the test of this oyster though, it is tough and bitter. That is why I am searching for an alternative specie which tolerates heat. It is very warm in my country.
I was really thrilled to know that Dr Anon has been to Africa. Unfortunately Dr Anon, my country is not among the countries you visited. We are still far behind in mushroom cultivation, may be you could have been a great help to us. I am eager to learn from you Dr Anon, and from you members of this forum.
Please accept my sincere gratitude for accepting me to this forum.
Thank you

Welcome friend from Tanzania
It was pity that you could not understand our Thai language but luckily how wise you are to understood by seeing our snaps. In fact, it is Prof. Dr. Anon's aspiration to expand his experiences and expertise to not only Thais but for all around the globe, but since then only few from outside did show interest. In 1989 Dr. Anon was first beeing assigned as ITC/WTO under World Bank funded in Ghana, Western African and nearby country, till 1998 he had been moved to Swaziland as Senior Expert on Mushroom with the same Organization sunsequently he had been roaming around in Sothern Africa like Lesotho, Boswana, Mazambique, Namibia and South Africa. During which we had settled our mushroom farm at Randfontein, Johannesburg suburb, SA and we too had a chance to visit your beautiful country Tanzania intended to go to Kilimanjaro mountain but because of time limited we could not do it at that time. Frankly speaking, your country have not only beautiful natural resouces, beaches(Zanzibar), climate like Thailand with a lot of visitors(Tourists). In fact you have entered to the right track by growing mushroom by taking the prevail advantage of million of visitors as well as tourist logdes and hotel including restaurants. But I was so surprised to learn that you could grow only oyster mushroom in which you do not like its taste and flavour, then how about the other tropical mushroom like straw mushroom,Bean mushroom, ear mushroom, milky mushroom etc. whereas you could easily grow at your climatical asmosphere. See thru our sucess in Thailand we could produce variuos kind of edible tropical mushrooms more than 600,000 tom per annum in which Prof. Dr. Anon is one of the key role person to make this tremendous achievement. I am sure that if you could follow his food path it would lead you to the great success in the near future. If you need any assistance we may help, please do not hesitate to allow us know we would be most greatful to render our service to your guy with much pleasure

Re: HELLO FRIENDS, HERE IS A NEW MEMBER
Thank you very much for your kind words Sir. I am very thrilled to know that you have been to the land of Kilimanjaro!
May be it is not that people did not show interest. It might be just that they have not discovered you. Anyone who is growing mushroom would be happy to know you. For example myself, I have been on the internet for about two years now searching for tropical mushrooms, only to have found you just recently.
Speaking of growing mushroom, it is still an unrecognized treasure here in Tanzania. Very few people wants to eat this oyster mushroom we are growing thus the market is poor. For instance where I live in Dresalaam, I have thrown away lots and lots of mushrooms. Each hotel you visit either they don’t want it or they have someone bringing them. Therefore, few people engage themselves in mushroom cultivation. We are unable to cultivate the most wanted button mushroom due to warm weather (Daresalaam). Most of us are financially unwell. We are unable to afford the environment controlled cultivation. Another setback is unavailability of cultures for other species. We have cooler regions like Arusha and Kilimanjaro where species like agaricus can be grown but they don’t have cultures for these species. May be we would have done better with the tropical species including the ones you have just mentioned but no cultures for these too. I have read on the internet about the milky mushroom and the tricholoma giganteum mushroom. I want very much to try these species but I could not get the cultures. I have begged so many people in India but so far I have not been successful. I am a little bit reluctant to grow the straw mushroom. I have read that it is highly perishable and the market for mushroom here is unstable. I will be throwing away most of my energy. I don’t know anything about the ear and bean mushrooms. I will have to do some reading about them.
I am very grateful for the offer for assistance. You just don’t know how much I appreciate this. May God bless you all. Please do help us. To start with, please tell me where I can get the milky mushroom and tricholoma giganteum cultures.
Salute to you, salute to Prof Dr Anon, salute to the members of this forum. Thank you.

Re: HELLO FRIENDS, HERE IS A NEW MEMBER
Hujambo Naileth, Kuwakaribisha forum kwetu.
I am Col.Packdee, a military retiree who grows mushrooms for pleasure.
My favorite one is the Fan mushroom.
The place, where I live, is far from the city. There is no super market here.
But there is a super flea market, arranged once a week, not very far from my house.
Today I go there to take photos about some mushrooms that we have here.

Your position for the demand of mushroom initially would be more or less the same as what we used to face 40 years ago in Thailand
You should read this article under this forum sent to the inquiry from Sri Lanka few minutes ago
During 1986-1989 Prof.Dr. Anon was designated as Mushroom Expert attached to SLEDB(Sri Lanka Export Development Board) funded by APO(Asian Productivity for the Initial stage and UNDP/World Bank for the consecutive phase) to set up National Mushroom Project at Moratowa. I would be therefore really surphrised that why don't you contact the relevant officer or office to obtain what you want. It is of course we have vast collection in tropical mushroom cultures and spawns ie. American oyster mushroom(Pleurotus ostreatus Fr. more than 22 strains, Bhutanese oyster mushroom(Pleurotus eous) 13 strains) and Indian oyster mushroom(Pleurotus sajor caju) 5 strains, Abalone mushroom(Pleurotus cystidiosus) 7 strains, Pleurotus citrinopileatus(Golden oyster) 3 strains, Pleurotus djamor(Pink oyster) 3 strains, Straw mushroom(Volvariella volvacea) more than 1,250 strains, Ear mushroom(Auricularia polytricha and A. auricula) 15 strains, Oak mushroom(Lentinus edodes) 28 strains, Lentinus squarrosulus 17 strains and Lentinus polychros 8 strains, Hericium erinaceus 12 strains,Dictyophora duplicata 5 strains, Tremella fuciformis 5 strains, Tricholoma crussum 8 strains, Tricholoma lobayensc 2 strains, Calocybe indica 4 strain, Oudemansiella radicata 5 strains, Boletus colossum 24 strains, Phellinus linteus 8 strains, Phellinus ignarius 6 strains, Schizophyllum commune 6 strains, Ganoderma lucidum 56 strains, Agaricus blazei 7 strains, Agaricus bisporus 45 starins, Cordyceps sinensis 8 strains, Cordyceps militaris 9 strains, and many more in our Mushroom Cultures Bank, price would be varies from $65-250 per culture upon type and strain of those mushroom. Usually we would keep all cultures for our local customers in Thailand only but for outsider we would do upon the request. Of course, the pure culture would be in steriled plastic zip back sent by post. Whoever want to order our product must send us confirmed order by specify the common name, and scientific name for the needed one.
Thank for your shown interest

Having seen the above article , you should be awared that we have a vast tropical mushroom cultures collection due to the great and tirelessly efford by Prof. Dr. Anon roaming around every corner in the country and during his service as International Mushroom consultant to many countries in Asia&Pacific , Africa and Latin America between 1981-2003. As your explanation for the marketing situation in Tanzania would be more or less the same as we were facing during the past 40 years ago, instead of heading or aiming into supermarket or hotel but we would rather encourage the local to consume this nutritious and medicinal stuff like mushroom for their good health and economical. One should learn from this great gained lesson from us or else where Prof.Dr. Anon used to work with like Bhutan, Sri lanka, Ghana whereas currently they could encourage their people to graw more mushroom for both local consumption and export. We are at your side to support your opinion to start with those lond lasting mushroom like Rhino feet mushroom or Milky mushroom due to the said mushroom could be easily grown in tropical condition and could be stored in refrigerator for more than a week or many weeks by using MAP bag(Modified Atmospheric plastic bag) invented by Dr. Anon. May I also take this golden opportunity to thank Col. Pakdee for his great support for this comment by giving us with the most recent pictures took from Flea market in the village to show you that fresh mushrooms are extensively popular for Thai dishes even at the village level not only for just modern trade marketing place or vested hotel. We wish you for all success in the very near future

Re: HELLO FRIENDS, HERE IS A NEW MEMBER
If it were not for this bad oyster we are having (I don’t know its scientific name, our cultures supplier calls it 814), advocacy and marketing would have been a little bit easier. But for now it is tough because when you sell to someone he does not come back after finding out that the test is not good. It is a bit OK with the big hotels because they carter for knowledgeable people who eat mushroom for its benefit and not for the test. Our culture supplier used to have a sweet specie of oyster mushroom (I don’t know its scientific name too) which motivated me to start growing mushroom. He then stopped making it. It had a disadvantage though. It was attracting flies and small maggots were attacking the fruits even before maturity. I think that is why he stopped making it.
The mushroom cultivation here started in 1994 or 1995. It is now almost seventeen years and we are nowhere near you. With this trend, then it has to be 40 years twice to get to where you are. I will be long gone by then.
I have just read your post about the cultures you have in your stock. So you have the milky mushroom! What a great news! God is great. What are the names of these strains? What is the difference between these four strains?
Hello Mr Col. Packdee, Sijambo, asante sana. I am more than happy to hear you speaking my language, thank you. Have you been to my country?
Thank you for the pictures. They are awesome! What are the four species in the bottom column counting from the green basket? I wish we could have such a beautiful market!
Thank you.

Please follow your requirement
Since you are looking for good source of information on tropical mushroom and you come to us with most welcome,as you might be aware that this website mainly serves for our exclusive members mostly Thais whereas most of Thais will not have second language like other. It is therefore, some could not understand other language apart from Thai. Some member is curious and eager to know for what we are talking about but because of time permitted is so limited for us, we could not translate or try to do every thing you want. I think you rather better keep your own track and concentrate merely for your mushroom view, sorry for this inconvenience
Concerning the name of code for each type or strain of mushrooms, we do not have something as you may understand, here in Thailand our custommer would tell us for what they want by give us more detail on the village wheather condition including market need, then only we could advice them accordingly. For instance, if you are looking for Agaricus bisporus in Summer we then would recommend you with our available strain to you. Likewise other varieties or strains would be the same procedure, ok.

TROPICAL MUSHROOM STRAINS
OK. I got you very well Mr Fez. I understand your situation. It is not an easy task to keep this forum running.
About the tropical mushroom strain, my weather here is between 28C and 35C. I am looking for a calocybe indica strain which would grow in this range of temperature. I am also looking for the tricholoma giganteum culture. I am not able to grow summer agaricus due to lack of space for composting.
Thank you very much.

The other source of mushroom cultures supplier is ATCC
Many times we used to buy rared mushroom cultures from ATCC(American Types Cultures CollectionX, Maryland, USA. One could seek for the wanted varieties or various strains of all kinds of microorganisms including mushroom from this firms. We used to buy at the price US$ 165 (30 years ago), currently price has gone up to US$210 up(slightly higher than us).
